The Sunflower Trick!

by Kati Schnierer

This fall, I inherited the plot of our summer intern, Alex. Before he left, he made sure I learned how to protect the sunflower seeds from being eaten by birds. The very easy trick is to cover the wilted flower (after its bloomed in all its glory) with a paper bag. This way the birds cannot at it and it will also collect the seeds, not letting them fall to the ground.
